I’ve followed Lara Casey’s blog for a couple of years now. When she announced that she was going to be releasing a book, I immediately added it to my Amazon Wishlist. As Lara states in her book she has a contentment challenge where she isn’t purchasing new clothes, home decor, etc. that she started in September of 2013. I think it’s a brilliant challenge because let’s be honest do we really need another shirt, scarf, picture frame, color of nail polish etc. definitely not. I’m going to try this challenge in 2015 and I urge you to try it too!
Today I’ll be reviewing Lara’s new book Make it Happen c/o BookLook Bloggers. Lara’s book is incredible and it probably won’t surprise you that I’m giving it 5 out of 5 ruby red slippers. Her words captivate and inspire you and encourage you to spend more time with God. I’m excited to share my review and some of my personal reflections with you. And if you haven’t picked up her book yet to read in 2015. Go do it now, it’s a book that I’m so glad I read and I know you’ll be glad you read it too!
Make it Happen Review
I began reading this book on Christmas day. The day after a Christmas Eve service where I was shook to the core and knew I couldn’t keep being a lukewarm Christian. From the moment Silent Night began I started crying. I’d sung that song in the candlelight with my family on Christmas Eve for years. In fact it was the highlight of Christmas Eve services from childhood to adulthood. And here I was crying, God was really working on me. As we began to sing O Holy Night and the tears started falling again I knew I needed to really, truly surrender. I needed to own my faith. Not my family’s or my husband’s. They couldn’t save me, only God could. The entire theme of that night was surrender. I surrendered my dreams, plans, control and my life to Him.
In the first couple pages of Lara’s book are these two quotes about surrender. Since I’d just had a major night of surrendering it was funny how God was again showing me how important it was to keep surrendering my life to Him. It wasn’t just going to be a one time surrender, but a continual process over the years.
Making it happen – a life lived on purpose – comes by surrendering control. -Lara Casey, Make it Happen
I learned a life-altering truth: my need for control was holding life back. New life would come not by my own might but through surrender. -Lara Casey, Make it Happen
Lara has stopped chasing impossible standards and surrendered her fears, to become truly productive in what matters. She shares her story of how God has worked in the broken pieces to refine her in Him. God has done extraordinary things with Lara’s story. Just like He has done extraordinary things your story and my story. I pray that God would do amazing things in your story in 2015! I’m inviting you to share you story in the My Story is Beautiful series in 2015, too! I’d love to have you.
I don’t want to spoil too much of her story or the book for you, so now I’m just going to encourage you to go order a copy of Make it Happen.
