Life with the Ramsings

What’s your word?

What's your word-

Have you jumped on board the “picking a word for the year” train? I did in 2013 and 2014 with the words “prayer” and then “love”. This year I thought picking a word was going to be easy. In fact I even tried to be an overachiever and pick a word in November.

The word that I picked back in November was JOY. But over the past few weeks God’s been showing me other words in addition to JOY such as, SURRENDER, INTENTIONAL, LOVED, and finally the word that encompassed the rest FOLLOW HIM.

Follow Him

I understand New Years resolutions and goals, but having a theme or a word for a year fits me more. The process of finding a word for this year even prompted Peter and I to talk about our mission as a couple. That’s what I like about having a word for my year. Back in school I learned how important it was to have a mission as a business or an organization and was privileged to help craft the statement at work for our office. Just like successful businesses and organizations have focuses, the focus of my life need to go somewhere otherwise where am I going?

So, this year, I am really excited to have the words Follow Him be at the forefront of my thoughts. It’s also a great way for Peter to be reminded to pray for me and encourage me in my journey to follow God this year.

Come follow me

Do you have a focus this year?

Maybe you’re on the same boat as my husband and a scrooge of all things “New Years (fill in the blank)”. Maybe you have a list of SMART goals “101 things for 2015” numbered and scoped. Both are great, but if you had to take a look back at your year come January 2016 how would you be able to tell that you’ve grown in the last year? That’s the question I’m posing to my husband as he is the scrooge of all New years (fill in the blank), and also the question I might pose to you. Be it a list or a word…what will your focus be in 2015?

Love this! My word is “forgive.” I’ll be sharing more about what that looks like for me, at least tangibly, on Friday 🙂

My word is Selah, pause and praise. Something I need to learn to do and based on how hard the last several months have been I am ready to pause from my worry and hurt and praise Him for all He has done in my life.

I love this. Because I’m with you with the whole setting goals and not really doing it that way. I did a word last year. This year I more decided that my theme would be to fear God relentlessly…and not man. 🙂

What a beautiful theme for the year! And I’m so glad you’re not as into “New Years” goals either!

Love your word(s)! When I first heard of the word of the year theme going through Blogland I didn’t really think much of it, but the more I saw it the more it seemed like a good idea. I chose Completion to be my word, because I really wanted to focus on being better at doing the things I say I’m going to do.

Thank you, Kristin! Completion is a great word. Have you read The Best Yes? I’ve heard it’s a great book on that topic!
