As the saying goes “a picture is worth a thousand words” but let me first explain. Thirty one days ago I began my Whole30 journey and my life has never been the same. The photo shown is my before and after photo transformation after doing Whole30. I learned about Whole30 through a friend who I noticed had lost a significant amount of weight. She told me about her amazing results and all the benefits after doing Whole30 and I decided right there and then that I wanted to try it! What did I have to lose? Before I started my Whole30 I ate a mostly high carb diet and was suffering from a lack of energy and always feeling tired and sluggish. I had a gym membership but rareley went to the gym during my winter hibernation. I felt overweight, unhealthy, and unhappy I wasn’t fitting into my pants. I really didn’t want to continue buying new pants (dresses, tights, and leggings became my new friend.) I had digestion and bloating problems and had terrible shoulder pain in my left shoulder that left me going to the chiropractor every other week. I had the shoulder pain for a few years and nothing seemed to be helping. My chiropractor eased the pain but the pain in my shoulder never fully went away. I decided to give Whole30 a shot. I wanted to do Whole30 to fit into my pants again and have more energy! And if my shoulder pain went away then that would be even better!
So if you are unfamiliar with Whole30 as I was let me sum it up for you. Basically you eat meat, vegetables, and fruit for 30 days. Sounds easy right? Well don’t forget on Whole30 you can NOT eat any dairy, carbs, sugars, alcohol or legumes for 30 days since you are cleansing your body of all the processed foods you usually consume. No cheese?!! No pasta?!! No pizza?!! No ice cream?!! Yes I started freaking out. But I kept telling myself it’s ONLY 30 days and after hearing about all the amazing health benefits and more energy I knew I had to do it! The other challenging part about Whole30 is that there are no cheats or slips on the diet or you have to start over to day 1. But what I really loved about Whole30 was that I wasn’t buying into anything, paying for products or a membership, or counting calories. It seemed crazy to me at the time that I could eat as many fruits, veggies, and meat as I wanted and still be able to lose weight. I loved not having to count calories but instead just chose to change what I was eating.
I will admit the first two weeks of Whole30 were tough but by week three I started to notice the changes. I had more energy, my pants were starting to fit again, and I was surprisingly more happy. By week four I felt amazing and on day 31 my results astonished me! After 30 days on Whole30 I lost 15 lbs, gained tons of energy, and now do 3 classes a week at my gym. I now look forward to going to the gym and discovered that I love Zumba! I actually have muscle definition in my arms now which I never had before. My pants fit looser and some pants are even too big and baggy on me now (not that I’m complaining!) I have no digestion or bloating problems but best of all my shoulder pain is gone! I haven’t gone to the chiropractor since starting Whole30! I noticed my mood drastically changed after Whole30 and I surprisingly feel more happy! Whole30 has significantly changed my life and has made me live a more happy and healthy lifestyle!
