Feeling Fierce in a Red Dress

We all have those mornings when the outfit we’d decided on for the day just isn’t working. So back into the closet we go to find another outfit. After trying that outfit on we realize that it’s not going to work either. And the process repeats until we need to leave for work and just settle on something that will work. By the time we’re leaving the house we’d rather crawl under the covers and pretend that whole outfit mess didn’t just happen. We want to rewind the time, hoping that we didn’t really just waste 20 minutes or more trying to figure out what to wear for the day. We want to begin the day fresh again, but rewinding time isn’t a reality… if only.

This was my Tuesday morning last week and the outfit I started with was the red dress in the photos. It was too warm to wear the jean jacket over it to work and my rigid-planning-self couldn’t make heads-or-tails of what to wear instead because I didn’t plan to wear anything but that dress. I think I opted for a black and white striped dress, that I absolutely love, but because the weather wasn’t a cool and rainy day I was bummed. (You know you’ve live, in the Pacific Northwest if you find yourself wishing for 65 degrees and rainy when the weather report calls for 90.)

On Wednesday morning I wake up and realize that the weather forecast aligns with my wardrobe dreams from Tuesday. I put the dress on and was feeling fierce. Being that it was a cooler day I left my jean jacket on all day except to take these photos and to show a blogging friend the ruffles.

To those of you who develop rigid wardrobe plans for the day while you’re in the shower without checking the weather first, don’t be afraid to change your planned outfit of the day. (Yes, I need to heed this myself, maybe more than you’d know.)

Curate your closet so that you love every single item you own and so that every item fits. My closet may look a lot more minimalistic these days, but I know that every time I walk out the door I’m going to like what I’m wearing even if it’s not exactly what I’d planned for the day.

So, go be fierce and conquer the day!
