She Flies with Her Own Wings Little Bay Root Tee
The state motto of Oregon is Latin, “alis volat propriis,” translated into English, “She Flies with Her Own Wings.” I moved to Oregon in June of 2012 not knowing anyone. I took a leap of faith and flew with my own wings.
Not knowing anyone quickly turned into a wonderful network of friends and family (my church family is family and yes, I met my husband in Oregon). One of the things that helped me feel connected in Oregon being 2,500 miles away from my parents, brother, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins was my church family. The beauty of church family is that from my experience growing up, undergrad, grad school, Corvallis, and now Portland, I have family all over the world.
I met my friend Maddy (in the photos with me in today’s post) in our Bridgetown Community. Bridgetown is the church that Peter and I go to and our church gathers on Sunday’s and in small groups around the table throughout the week. Our community gathers every Thursday night and it’s often the highlight of my week. My Bridgetown Community is my family. My Bridgetown Community encourages me to fly with my own wings.
