Amazon Echo Look Review
When I first heard about the Amazon Echo Look, my initial reaction, was that this would be the product that would make taking outfit photos for my blog and social media easier. I already have Peter take an outfit photo of me almost every morning. But not having to ask him to take my photo before he leaves for work or wait for me to finish my makeup, before he catches the train, made finally deciding to order this product quite appealing.
Currently, this product is by invitation only, requested by the buyer. I originally let my first invitation lapse. I really waffled back and forth whether I wanted this product for weeks. I wanted it, but I didn’t like the price tag of this Amazon Echo Look and I wasn’t sure if I wanted to make the plunge on this investment. Eventually, I requested another invitation and decided I wanted to see what this product was all about and try it for myself. Even though the price tag still bugged me.
The ideal target market for this device is fashion bloggers and those who want to catalog their style. Amazon missed the mark on this product. Fashion bloggers want to be able to share their style on social media. This device does not allow you to do that the way you hope you’ll be able to. It is not compatible with Instagram, where fashion bloggers and those who enjoy cataloging their style typically share their style. Meaning that you can save your photo to your phone, but once you try to upload it to your Instagram app it will either cut your head or your feet off… which is annoying. You can hack the device, meaning turn it on its side to get an Instagram sized photo, but then the Pop function (which blurs the background) will blur your feet, ugh.
The Amazon Echo Look is supposed to make taking your outfit photos and style videos easier, because you can simply ask Alexa to “take a photo” or “take a video”. I found it to be quite buggy as our first device didn’t even work after a couple photos. The replacement arrived a few days later and while it worked, it just didn’t prove to be worthy of my everyday style routine, due to its lack of compatibility with social media. If you don’t care about being able to share your style photos, it does take a pretty good photo (see below).
Amazon Echo Look has an app, which is how you can see all of the photos and videos you ask Alexa to take for you. In the app, there is a feature called Style Check. With Style Check, you can compare two outfits and it will tell you which one is the preferred outfit. I didn’t like style check because it wasn’t a fan of my cool green floral pants, which I love. I don’t need another app that makes me feel worse about myself. Comparison on social media already does that. Style Check will also give you ideas of other styles you might like from Amazon Fashion, but I don’t shop on Amazon Fashion… so maybe it’s helpful for some, but not for me.
This device caused more angst and frustration than any device should and it is not worth the investment. I so badly wanted to love this product. Sadly, it didn’t perform as expected and ultimately was returned.
