What to Wear Skydiving
On September 8, 2018, I fulfilled a 10+ year dream of going skydiving thanks to good friends. Peter and I went to Skydive Oregon with our friends Philip and Sarah (read more about Skydive Oregon at the end of the post for those who live in the Corvallis/Portland area). Of our group, Peter was the only one who had went skydiving before. If you’re going to go, go with someone who has tandem skydived before. You’ll feel a WHOLE lot calmer, or at least I sure did.
Before going skydiving I did a bit of research trying to figure out what to wear and I didn’t find a lot of information. I always figured the day I finally went skydiving they’d make me wear some ugly sort of a jumpsuit. It was awesome, I didn’t have to wear some ugly jumpsuit and was able to wear my street clothes.
So, what to wear skydiving, I suggest jeans, old running shoes, and a dri-fit material top. A dri-fit material top will help keep you warm and cool and will also wick away all of the sweat that you’ll probably have when you get especially nervous right before you’re about to jump.
Skydiving isn’t the time to make a fashion statement. Wear comfortable clothes (not too baggy) and be okay with the fact that you’re going to have some funny faces captured while skydiving (if you get the photos/video). Most importantly, have fun!
Peter and I both wore Nike Dri-Fit Element tops overtop Cyclone (her) and Jayhawk (him) tees with jeans and running shoes. Do make sure your running shoes are tied really well. My left shoe came untied at some point in the air and thankfully did not fall off.
We went skydiving at Skydive Oregon about an hour South of Portland, Oregon. Skydive Oregon has been in business since I was born. This year is my 30th birthday and their 30th anniversary! It is an incredible place to go skydiving. I appreciate how calm they help make you feel and how well they prepare you for a first jump. Yes, I got quite nervous before jumping, but what sane person doesn’t get at least a little nervous. I tandem jumped with Turtle and it was an amazing experience. I can’t wait to go back to Skydive Oregon again someday!
