One Dress Four Ways
Last week I wore this dress to work sleeveless. I didn’t wear it sleeveless because the temperature was warm (it was 43 degrees) when I left for work that morning. I wore it to work sleeveless because I had NO CLUE how to transition this dress from summer to fall weather.
That day, the forecast was a high of 72. You better believe that I was hoping and praying that it would sure warm up fast that day.
That morning I tried all kinds of layers with this dress to stay warm. Everything I tried frustrated the heck out of me. Nothing looked as good that morning as the dress by itself. So, I opted to wear my trench coat with it in case I got cold. I ended up wearing it in one meeting and freezing the rest of the day…
Not my brightest wardrobe choice. I share these moments because if you read this post without the backstory you probably think I have it all together. Wrong, I struggle putting outfits together some days too. Some days I leave the house in a sleeveless dress and freeze because I should have dressed warmer.
Because the days are just going to get colder and rainier, I knew I had to figure out how to layer my favorite work dresses fast. So, I visited one of my favorite Nordstrom stylists at the Downtown Portland store and asked her advice.
What should I layer with a classic sheath dress in the fall and winter months?
She gave me quite a few ideas that I felt comfortable executing and rocking confidently to work. My favorites ideas… pair a long sweater with a dress, a blazer with a dress, or wear a turtleneck under a dress. Thanks to her help, I feel ready for fall without changing my wardrobe drastically.
