note from the designer
“If you can dream it, do it.” -Walt Disney
I learned how to insert my first zipper into a dress in my high school sewing class. I grew up in a small town in Northwest Iowa and graduating in a class of 33 meant that I took that sewing class solo. In college, I sewed a few more zippers in garments during my college-level sewing course on an industrial Juki and then proceeded to go years before sewing the next. During the pandemic, I retaught myself how to sew in a zipper one day because I really wanted to make a zipper pouch to hold all the supplies I use to bind quilts. I’m truly thankful to my high school and college teachers because reteaching myself with a few YouTube videos wouldn’t have been possible without that prior knowledge. As a pattern designer, I couldn’t keep all of this knowledge to myself and so a beginner-level pattern for making zipper pouches was created. I’ve made so many zipper pouches myself since relearning to insert zippers. I can’t wait to see all of the zipper pouches you make too!
Happy sewing!
Allison
